D. Rick Brown, M.D.

Dr. Brown is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.

He received a Bachelors of Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University in 1973. He is a cum laude graduate of the Department of Bio-Medical Engineering at Vanderbilt.

He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1979. He attended medical school at UASOM on a United States Naval Scholarship.

His initial postgraduate medical training was with the Navy at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, California, an affiliate program of the University of California in San Francisco. He completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham.

Dr. Brown is board certified in Internal Medicine.

His medical military career included an assignment as Medical Officer on board the USS MARS (AFS-1). His assignment on board MARS (AFS-1) included a twelve-month deployment to the Indian Ocean in support of the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) Battlegroup during the Iran Hostage Crisis. His final military assignment was as Head of the Department of Medicine at The Naval Hospital Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico. During his three-year assignment there he was involved with the triage and crisis management of Navy SEAL personnel wounded in combat during the Grenada Rescue Mission. He was the recipient of a Naval Meritorious Unit Citation for the medical support interaction. He was also awarded The Navy Achievement Medal for multiple other hospital and patient-care actions while assigned at Roosevelt Roads.

He returned to Birmingham and civilian Internal Medicine practice in 1987 when he joined Southside Internists, P.C. In 1994, Southside Internist, P.C. and Lakeview Internal Medicine, P.C. merged to form the nexus of Southview Medical Group, P.C. Dr. Brown is one of the founding members of the twenty- eight physicians that presently compose Southview Medical Group, P.C.

Dr. Brown practices ambulatory (out patient) medicine and admits patients requiring hospital or inpatient treatments to the    Hospitalist group at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Dr. Brown is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Anne-Laura R. Cook, M.D.

Dr. Cook is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama and was an active member of the New College and University Honors Programs. She graduated cum laude with a Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Pre Medical Studies. She received her Medical Degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

Dr. Cook completed her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Cook is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Her special interests are Preventive Medicine, Women’s Health, Sports Medicine, and Care of the Medically Complex Patient.

Dr. Cook joined Southview Medical Group in 2009.

Dr. Cook is a member of the American College of Physicians, Jefferson County Medical Society, National Physicians Alliance, and Wilderness Medical Society.

Noah J. Fitzpatrick, M.D.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Vanderbilt University, graduating with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He received his Medical Degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

Dr. Fitzpatrick completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Alabama Hospital.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is board certified in Internal Medicine. His special interests include Diabetes, Heart Failure, Osteoporosis, Lipid disorders, Hypertension and Preventative Medicine.

Dr. Hudson is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama, graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Chemistry. She completed her Medical Degree at the University of Alabama Medical School. She did her Internship and her Residency training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Malensek is a native of Minnesota.  He completed his undergraduate degree and Medical Degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dr. Malensek did his Internship and Residency Training at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals.

She completed her fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Thomas D. Nielsen, M.D

Dr. Nielsen was raised in Atlanta, GA.  He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.  He received his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and trained at Duke University Medical Center for Internal Medicine Internship and Residency.  He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Nielsen previously worked as an Engineer and Programmer in the Medical Equipment Industry and in Medical Research.

Dr. Nielsen is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Eligible in Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Parks is a native of Georgia.  He attended University of the South (Sewanee) and graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry.  He received his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama Medical School.

Dr. Parks completed postgraduate training at University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals and Parkland Memorial Hospital and Dallas VA Hospital.  He completed his Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Alabama Medical School.

Dr. Parks has participated in numerous research projects and authored/co-authored a number of journal articles and abstracts.

Dr. Parks is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Prior to joining Southview Medical Group, P.C. in 1996, Dr. Parks was an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Disease at University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Cash is a native of Centre, Alabama. She attended Jacksonville State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Master's Degree in Nursing from Emory University. Dr. Cash was a Nursing Instructor at Gadsden State Community College before returning to school and completing her Medical Degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She did her Dermatology Internship and Residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Beth is a native of Kansas, where she attended the University of Kansas and received her Bachelor's of Education degree in sports science. She then received her Health Sciences Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree with honors from the University of St. Augustine. Beth is certified in physical therapy in the state of Alabama.

She joined Southview in 2006 as the Director of Physical Therapy.

Danalynn Guasteferro, D.P.M.

Dr. Guasteferro is a native of Buffalo, New York. She attended LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, graduating with a degree in Psychology. She completed her Podiatric medicine Training at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Guasteferro completed her Podiatric Surgical Residency at Botsford General Hospital which is affiliated with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Guasteferro is Board Certified with the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and with the American Board of Primary Podiatric Medicine and Orthopedics.

Dr. Guasteferro joined Southview Medical Group, PC in 2008.
